Jeff "look at pita. she is becoming a tv baby."
(this is said after us calling her name with no response for two straight minutes)
me "I know it's kinda sad."
Jeff "do you ever, like, take time to play with her during the day?"
me (insulted) "of course I do. I mean ... I try to ... If she lets me ... "
Jeff "if she let's you? what? she always lets me play with her."
(I start to panic and wonder if I ever do try to play with her... am I a horrible mother? giving my child a.d.d. because all she does is watch tv? then it comes back to me....)
I have decided that it's because I am the one who usually changes her diaper, wipes off her face and hands, brushes her hair, gets her dressed, tells her no... all these things that she detests. so when I call her or beckon her for something fun, she doesn't know the difference and runs away. sad. maybe I need to be more consistent with the language I use so she can tell the difference...
after our conversation we promptly turned off the television and played for a good half hour before bed time. see? progress...

i love the outfit... so stylin'.
i have a much different problem than you... all ava wants to do is play with me. all. day. long. i mean, i love to play with her, but she refuses to do quiet play on her own, she insists that i at least sit down and watch her. *sigh* i guess, we each have our own troubles, don't we? good luck!
you know that primary song "i'm so glad when daddy comes home"? it's all cheery and happy and excited because, why? it's the end of a long day with mom and she's grumpy and the kids need some fun! enter dad.
my husband is totally the fun parent in our household. someday they'll appreciate all the diaper changes i provided.
darling darling picture of a darling darling girl.
aaahhh. my little vampire in her little vampire jacket. so precious.
i live for days when owen just wants to watch tv and isn't begging me to play blocks. grass is always greener.
That picture of petra is adorable. She is so beautiful!
We have the TV on all day at our house too! I justify it by saying she is learning from it. Olivia does like my attention too, but mostly if she wants something. As long as petra is not watching soap operas I saw tv is good for them.
i've given up on trying to be the fun parent. instead i have turned that title over to my mother.
grandma: all fun all the time.
mom: the "meanest ever" for not letting him get swedish fish in line at kinkos.
oh well.
AHH.. The TV is a hard one! Weston would sit on the couch all day if I'd let him! I hate staying home and doing nothing though. So I just let him watch TV while I get ready int he morning-- then it gets turned off and we go out and do something.
I did hear somewhere that no more than 2 hours per day for the tv is good???
